Advanced Research Consortium on Gender, Culture and the Knowledge Society

Book Launch

Date: 15th December 2011
Time: 5.00-7.00pm
Location: Moore Institute Seminar Room, NUIG

You are cordially invited to the launch of L'Identité de genre dans les oeuvres de George Sand et Colette by Marion Krauthaker (Paris, L'Harmattan, 2011). Krauthaker is a member of the Gender, Discourse and Identity research cluster of Gender ARC.

The book will be introduced by Dr Sylvie Lannegrand, Lecturer in French (NUI, Galway).  This monograph discloses how George Sand and Colette's writings, not only addressed women's emancipation, but also introduced avant-garde presentations of gender identity. At a time when this concept was still not theorized, Sand and Colette were already engaged in denunciating patriarchal codes as constraining factors preventing the development of a range of possible psycho-gender and sexual positions for men and women.

Also being launched at the same event is...

Audiovisual Translation. Subtitles and Subtitling by Laura Incalcaterra McLoughlin, Marie Biscio, Maire Aine Ni Mhainnin (eds) (Oxford: Peter Lang, 2011)

Introduced by Dr John Kearns, Irish Translators and Interpreters Association.

The volume addresses issues relating to AVT research and didactics. The first section is dedicated to theoretical aspects in order to stimulate further debate and encourage progress in research-informed teaching. The second section focuses on a less developed area of research in the field of AVT: its potential use in foreign language pedagogy.
