The University of Limerick will host this two-day
literary conference to explore the conjunctions of gender and the wars that
dominated the public sphere in many places (Ireland prominently among them) in
the period. It is organised as part of the
Identities, Sexualities and Masculinities research cluster within the UL/NUIG
Speakers coming from seven
countries will delivering papers on a wide range of topics. The plenary speakers
are Professor Lucy McDiarmid (Montclair State University), who will give a paper
titled ‘Undressing on the Asgard: Very Private Places in Irish Women's War
Memoirs’, and Professor Matthew Campbell (University of York) who will speak on
‘Dora Sigerson's Sad Years’. The conference will also host readings by author
Lia Mills (whose novels include Another Alice and Nothing Simple)
and Honor O Brolcháin (editor of All in the Blood, the memoirs of
Geraldine Plunkett Dillon).
In conjunction with the conference, the Glucksman
Library will host an exhibition and reception in Special Collections to showcase
holdings of relevant manuscripts and early books.
