Women Writers in History: Toward a New Understanding of European Literary Culture

Project Description

COST Action IS0901: ‘Women Writers in History: Toward a New Understanding of European Literary Culture’ is a research network, funded under the EU’s COST programme, involving the collaboration of 95 researchers from 25 European countries, the U.S. and Canada. The project aims to rethink literary history by focusing on the reception of texts authored by women, from the Middle Ages to 1914. Colleagues collaborate on, and populate, the online WomenWriters database (www.womenwriters.nl): the prototype for a virtual research environment that will enable large-scale quantitative analysis of data entered for women writers in all European countries.
